National Defense Intelligence College and Georgian Ministry of Defense will host the Third Symposium on Black Sea and Caspian Sea Security Issues. The Symposium will take place in Batumi, Georgia on June 11-12. The previous two events were held in Washington, DC and Constanta, Romania. In line with its objectives to promote multilateral cooperation, to foster knowledge and dialogue in and around the wider Black Sea region, the ICBSS is launching an International Symposium as a forum for study and dialogue in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment.
The 2008 ICBSS International Symposium will focus on “The Wider Black Sea Area in Perspective” and is to be held in partnership with the EU-Russia Centre, the Harvard Black Sea Security Program, NATO Public Diplomacy Division, and the University of the Aegean. It will take place on 1-6 July 2008 on the island of Kalymnos, Dodecanese, Greece.

Ukraine Office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung will organize an international conference on Black Sea Synergy on October 21-23. International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) started a new initiative. The Task Force is designed to meet periodically in order to ascertain the possibility of formulating a joint strategy for the development of the wider Black Sea area. A comprehensive strategy would set the framework for addressing regional priorities in the key fields of security and economic-social development. Such an integrated strategy would mirror the needs and priorities of the region and propose means and mechanisms to address them while taking into consideration, among others, the opportunities and possibilities offered by the international community.
